Development of Mineral Certification Information System (MCIS)

  •  Deployment of National Seismic Network (System)
  •  Development of Geological Information and Mining Cadaster System (GIMCS):
  • Deployment of both GIMCS Internal Portal and GIMCS External Portal
  •  Migration of licenses into GIMCS for all licenses granted by RMB
  •  Migration of licenses into GIMCS for all licenses granted by 14 districts
  • Digitalized more than 60,000 maps and documents from the RMB archive
  •  Construction of Geoscience Laboratory
  • The campaign programmes of Rwandan Lake Kivu Basin 2D Seismic Survey (Data acquisition, Processing and Interpretation of 466 km lines)

Conducted mineral exploration works:

1981:    Airborne geophysics survey. Target areas: Whole Country. Findings: Geophysical anomaly maps for Rwanda

2008:    Carry out an aerial survey to acquire new gravity and magnetic data for further understanding the Rwandan subsurface and possible associated mineral potential. Target areas: Target areas: Whole Country. Findings: Geophysical anomaly maps for Rwanda

2009-2010:    Consultancy services to carry out interpretation of the recent (October 2008) airborne Geophysical survey in Rwanda and integrating it with existing geosciences data. Target areas: Whole Country. Findings: 21 Potential target areas

2012:    Carbonatite Exploration in Rwanda. Target areas: Musebeya (Nyamagabe District). Findings: REEs of unknown origin and Vermiculite potential

2012:    Consultancy services to carry out surveys of mineral potential areas recently identified in Rwanda. Target areas: PTAs KAG-1 (59,988Ha), N-3 (31,035Ha), KIB-1 (38,211Ha) and N-2 (43,753Ha). Findings: Future target areas

2015:    Consultancy services to carry out surveys of mineral potential areas recently identified in Rwanda. Target areas: PTAs R-2, BUG-2 and BUG-3. Findings: Future target areas

2015-2016:    Detailed and systematic mineral exploration in Mwogo and Kirehe. Target areas: PTAs N-2, N-3 and KIB-1. Findings: Areas of interest were delineated

2016-2017:    Extended Mineral Exploration (airborne survey with verification works in 5 areas). Target areas: Whole Country. Findings: 52 Potential target areas with detailed survey in 5 potential target areas (Ndusu, Nshili, anomaly 4, anomaly 10 and anomaly 14)

2017-2018:    Extended Mineral Exploration (airborne survey with verification works in some areas). Target areas: Rukira, Ruli, Nzige, Birambo, Miyove, Gatumba. Findings: No convincing results for Rukira but other PTAs recommended for further verification works (Base metals, Au, LCT).

2018    Conducting forensic gold exploration in the vicinity of Nyungwe Forest. Target areas: Kamiranzovu marshland. Findings: Au

2018-2019:    Exploration of PTAs. Target areas: Nyiramuganza (1*4Km), Ntendezi Au (6*8km), Ntendezi sapphire (2*2km), Nyamasheke REE (4*2km), Nyamasheke galena (2*1km), Ndiza 3Ts (2*1km) and Burera Fe (2*2km). Findings: Lithium minerals and 3Ts, Au, Fe, REEs, Sapphire and Lead.

2019-2020:    Conduct the scout drilling and geo-scientific survey to the selected sites for mineral exploration. Target areas: Scout drilling for Nyiramuganza (1,005m) and subsurface exploration for Shyembe/Rutsiro (31.15km2), Ntendezi hydrocarbon (3km2), Kirimbi REE (15km2) and Rukarara REE (167km2).
