Essential and general service providers learn how to use GIMCS

Kigali, October 30, 2023 – A cohort of essential and general service providers participated in a training session on how to use the Geological Information and Mining Cadastre System (GIMCS), a system that will be responsible for managing and processing applications, renewals and transfers, offering sample permits, handling reports, mining inspections reports, mineral exploration data, mineral tagging, and managing fees and payments.

The system administration training consists of nine modules on Discretionary Settings, Modifying Licenses and Applications, License Type Setup and Compliance Documents, Payment Items and Fee Templates, Process Templates, System Settings and User Management, Templates, Translations and Toggle, GIMCS Online External Portal Administration, and Management of System Notifications.

“This system came into existence to reduce paper-based applications we normally processed” Patrick Kareba, Acting Director of ICT Unit/RMB.

GIMCS is expected to be fully operational in the near future, and it will be a significant step forward for the digitalization of the mining industry.

The training session not only targets essential and general service providers but is also customized to benefit license holders and mineral field officers across all districts. This approach ensures that all stakeholders in the mining and quarry industry are well-prepared to embrace digital transformation.
