LAUNCH OF TRINITY METALS GROUP OFFICIATED BY THE MINISTER OF FINANCE
Nyakabingo, March 23, 2023, Trinity Metals officially launched the merging of its three mining companies i.e. Rutongo Mines and Eurotrade International Ltd both located in Ruliondo district and Piran Rwanda Ltd found in Rwamagana district.
The launch was officiated by Dr. Uzziel Ndagijimana, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN). In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board, various government officials, investors, and mining operators.
Trinity Metals Group extracts Cassiterite, Coltan, and Wolfram (3Ts) and is currently carrying out exploration for Lithium at Ntunga, Rwamagana.
The group prides itself in aligning its operations with the Government’s plans to modernize and professionalize the mining sector.
As of today, 5000 Rwandans are employed by the group.
During the launch ceremony, the CEO of Trinity Metals revealed that the merger has aimed at making multimillion investments wherein $ 30 Million is to be earmarked to make investments in strengthening the supply chain, operationalization of semi-mechanization, mineral value addition, and boosting production.
Hon. Minister Uzziel made laudatory remarks about the mining sector labeling it as ‘the country’s second-largest export revenue earner after tourism’. He pledged that the ambition of the government of Rwanda is to boost the sector through local mineral value addition.
The minister asked mining operators to ratchet up the use of technology to increase productivity in extraction while simultaneously taking care of staff, protecting the environment, and considering safety and sustainability.
The CEO of RMB congratulated the Group for its investment in the mining sector. In a similar vein, the DCEO of RMB referred to the merger as a touchstone and a good example for other industry players who may follow suit in joining their efforts to increase production through investments in phasing out artisanal mining and then transitioning to mechanized mining.
