Kigali, April 23, 2026 —Management and staff from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda Convention Board (RCB), and the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), led by RDB CEO Jean-Guy Afrika, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to commemorate and honour the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The visit formed part of Kwibuka32, Rwanda’s 32nd commemoration period, and provided an opportunity to reflect on the tragic loss of life, including men and women who worked in the mining sector and whose lives were lost during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The commemoration ceremony featured impactful remarks from Alice Uwase, CEO of the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board; Veneranda Ingabire, Executive Director of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG); and Hon. Christine Muhongayire, Vice President of IBUKA. Participants also listened to a survivor testimony delivered by Jean Maurice Gasasira, which underscored the enduring importance of remembrance, resilience, and national unity.

Speaking at the event, RDB CEO Jean-Guy Afrika emphasised the collective responsibility to ensure that the lessons of the past continue to shape Rwanda’s future.

“Remembrance calls on each of us to reflect, learn, and play our part in building a united and peaceful Rwanda.”

At the Kigali Genocide Memorial, RDB CEO Jean‑Guy Afrika delivered remarks during the 32nd Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
