RMB and Rwanda Mining Association Mark 30th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi

Kigali, June 07, 2024 – The management and staff of the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum, and Gas Board (RMB), along with members of the Rwanda Mining Association (RMA), visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to solemnly mark the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

This visit served as a solemn tribute to honor the memory of those who worked in the mining sector and all other victims whose lives were tragically cut short during the genocide.

In his address, SAFARI Innocent, representing the CEO of the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum, and Gas Board, emphasized this commemoration's importance urging RMB and RMA staff to keep alive the memories of the victims of the 1994 Genocide.

He said that this time gives us a valuable opportunity to look back and recall the origins of the divisions that led to the genocide against the Tutsi. As enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda, it is our duty as Rwandans to commemorate the victims whose lives were tragically lost during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. This remembrance serves as a foundation for preventing the genocide ideology from taking root anywhere. It helps us to resolutely fight against those who deny the genocide against the Tutsi, attempting to distort its truth by giving it different names to erase the evidence of the cruelty and severity with which it was carried out.

The Chairman of the Rwanda Mining Association, Mr. Malick Kalima, said that the mining industry players are dedicated to fighting against genocide ideology and continue to remarkably contribute to the socio-economic transformation of Rwandan communities.

The Nyarugenge District Executive Administrator, in his remarks, reaffirmed that the Government of Unity and Reconciliation has vowed never to allow the genocide to repeat itself and has prioritized the unity of all Rwandans building a country free from sectarianism and genocide ideology.
