RMB AND RWANDA MINING ASSOCIATION PAID TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS LAID TO REST AT RUHANGA GENOCIDE MEMORIAL SITE
Kigali, June 30, 2023 – Today, in commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Rwanda Mines Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) and Rwanda Mining Association (RMA) came together to honor the memory of the victims at the Ruhanga Genocide Memorial site. This solemn occasion provided an opportunity for both institutions to pay tribute to the lives lost and to offer their support to the survivors.
The Ruhanga Genocide memorial site, located in the Kinyana village of Ruhanga cell, Rusororo sector, stands as a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The memorial is a resting place for over 37,000 Tutsi who tragically lost their lives in this area during the genocide.
RMB and RMA have been actively involved in efforts to rehabilitate some of the houses belonging to survivors residing in Kinyana village.
During the visit, the management, and staff of RMB and RMA paid their respects to those laid to rest at the memorial and provided solace to the survivors.
RMA Representative reassured survivors that they are not alone in their journey towards healing and recovery.
In her remarks, the CEO of RMB provided solace to the survivors and emphasized the unwavering commitment of RMB’s support to the survivors.
