RMB receives essential equipment to enhance digital transformation and sustainability in Rwanda's Mining Sector
Kigali, September 27, 2024 – An official equipment handover ceremony took place at RMB headquarters, officiated by RMB CEO Francis Kamanzi. The event was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Rwanda, a representative from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rwanda, and the GIZ Country Director.
The handover included 155 laptops, 10 tablets, and 35 smartphones for RMB staff, as well as occupational health and safety inspection tools for field inspectors. These tools were provided by GIZ as part of the ongoing EU and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)-funded project, “Sustainable Development of Rwanda’s Mining Sector”, co-implemented by RMB and GIZ.
The newly acquired tools are expected to strengthen the oversight of mining operations and ensure adherence to international environmental standards. This contribution will also support the sector's journey towards digital transformation through systems like the Geological Information and Mining Cadaster System (GIMCS) and the Digital Mineral Traceability System (DMTS).
During her remarks, the EU Ambassador praised the strong partnership between the EU and RMB, which has facilitated the ongoing implementation of sustainable mining projects in Rwanda.
CEO Francis Kamanzi expressed gratitude to the EU, BMZ, and GIZ, acknowledging their roles as key development partners contributing not only to the growth of the mining sector but also to the broader development of Rwanda across multiple areas.
The provision of this equipment comes at a pivotal time, as the mining sector focuses on transitioning towards more sustainable and digitally integrated practices.
