WORKSHOP FOR MINE OWNERS AND SENIOR MANAGERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Mine owners and Managers from Ruhango, Nyanza, Muhanga and Nyamagabe in a workshop in Muhanga- Southern province / 17 March 2023

From 15 to 24 March 2023, RMB in partnership with the International Supply Chain Initiative (iTSCi) / Pact-Rwanda is carrying out a countrywide workshop for mine owners and senior managers from mining companies registered in Rwanda. A total of 220 mining operators enrolled in the ITSCI program have been targeted.

The workshop is primarily designed to assist mining operators to brush up on their skills to conduct self-evaluation in terms of their level of compliance with national and international mining regulations, broaden their knowledge of Rwanda mining law, regulations, and standards; due diligence mechanism and ICGLR Regional Certification Mechanism.

The workshop proves to be a great opportunity for mining operators to exchange ideas on a number of issues many of which revolve around reinforcing compliance with safety standards, environmental protection, and ensuring that all minerals are compliant with the regional and international traceability schemes.

RMB as the sector regulator is committed to empowering and supporting the regional mineral certification mechanisms and ITSCI. Since April 2011, 100% of Rwandan minerals are traceable from their mine sites up to their export point. The current list of Designated Minerals includes gold, cassiterite, wolframite, and coltan. These are the same four minerals designated as ‘Conflict Minerals’ under the US Dodd-Frank act, and the same four minerals that are currently the target of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance.
